Does anyone have any suggestions for cleaning methods for canvas canopies. The one on my boat is starting to show the beginning of mould spots on the inside.

I have heard previously that sugar soap should be used - does anyone know whether this is correct?

Also if I use sugar soap or some other cleaner, does it affect the waterproofing and if so any suggestions on how/what to use for the waterproofing.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I would be wary of using sugar soap, I would think it might be a little fierce. I had a very mouldy acrylic spray hood to deal with a few years ago and went over iit with a high pressure water lance and then scrubbed it several times with water and washing up liquid. It cleaned off all the green mould and remained waterproof! (despite what all the club pundits said!). Many people recommend B&Q's mould treater (which I find keeps teak nice and clean)

Clean the mould off with water and a scrubbing brush, then when it is dry reproof it with Fabsil, available from Milletts or usually stocked by caravan shops. The Fabsil should delay the mould returning and extend the life of the canopy. It is applied with a paintbrush and dries in a couple of hours. Regards, Tony

I'll avoid the sugar soap as suggested, many thanks for the suggestions and tips on Mould treatment, Polycell & Fabsil. I'll try this out on the next dry weekend.
