Can anyone offer any advice on cleaning alloy masts and spars? My mast, which I must admit looks pretty grubby, is coming down for the first time in my ownership and probably the first time for 15 years and I would like to give a good clean.

I spoke to a man at the LBS and he recommended Arrowax (at least it sounded like that) but I cannot find it on Google. Any advice would be welcome.

Thanks in advance.

I managed to get a good effect on mine with not a lot of effort using B&Q sugar soap and one of those green plastic scouring pads. Dead cheap and it worked. Worth a try.

Acetone is as good as anything or you could try a product called "Ribshine" which is used for cleaning the C**p off of rib sponsons.

I would be looking to give it more than a clean. I take it you will be replacing the standing rigging?
