I would like to clean my sprayhood. I am considering putting it in the bath with some warm water and a soap powder. I have used Biotex on sails in the past. I am also wondering about using one of the more modern products like Vanish (Oxy?) does anyone have any thoughts/recomendations?

A lot of the discoloration can come from mould and a mould-killer like Polycell 3:1 can make a lot of difference as well as preventing further growth (and algae)

I have not seen anything that looks like mould. It just seems to look a bit grubby. You can see where we have held on while going forward and some bits where the rainwater has pooled a little.

How do you use Polycell 3:1? Do you paint it on a wet sprayhood or a dry one. How long do you leave it? Do you scrub it or mix it with anything? Rinse afterwards? My bottle has no instructions.

Spray or wipe on rubbing to clean bad areas as needed and then rinse off. We use a powerwasher (hoodmaker said to) but not too close to wash it off, it foams for ages. Then let it dry and reproof with Fabsil or similar painted on to really soak in rather than just sprayed on lightly to the surface.

If it's small enough, washing machine. Works for us. The plastic will come out milky, but don't panic, it'll go back to clear when dry.

PS - take it off the boat first /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Many thanks, I am concerned about putting it into the washing machine, as it will mean crunching up the windows more than I would like. That is why I thought of using the bath. What cleaning products have you used?

I prefer to do ours in situ on the frame and on the boat so that it cannot lose it's shape by stretchin or shrinking or wrinkling plus I can leave the windows out of the equation. I have a spray cleaner by I think Autoglym from Halfords for doing clear car hood windows that works well.
