Ok I know there are loads of cleaners about, and I guess Iv'e tried most of them but I never really feel that they have cleaned up very well.

My fenders were all very dirty and having taken the boat out of the water recently I took them all home to see what I could do. They were all in very serviceable condition but just filthy.

I decided to do what we are all told not to do! I took one of these sponges that you use for cleaning pots, the ones that have an abrasive green side. I scrubbed in the Jif with the abrasive side, or should I say Cif these days! Low and behold the dirt just all came off leaving the fenders looking clean and white! When they were dry I realised why we are told not to do this! they all looked beautifully clean but they didn't shine any more. I tried to polish them with the same marine polish I use on my boat but this didn't really make them look good again. I looked around my garage and found on the shelf a bottle of Glym bumper cleaner. The instructions say it cleans and polishes all plastics, so I rubbed some in on a fender and let it dry, after polishing it off the fender looks almost as good as new again! It feels smooth and shines again!

So if you are going to buy new fenders because your old ones just don't come up clean, try my method!

Regards Barry

Even that is comparitively crap on fenders, I use green washing up thingies, jif, cliff and just about every other thing known to man or beast. Funny how dinghys and boats are easy to clean, but not fenders!

3M citrus cleaner with an anti abrasive pad and to top it off use the Vinyl restorer after to keep the shine and keep it protected.

amazing

My own weekend was even more incredible, when i used one of those long curly pipe things from a garden centre (think they call them "hosepipes") and connect one end to a water supply and rinse the boat with the water that comes out of the other end...
