Has anybody been successful in selling a boat privately via the private sale ads in MBY/MBM?

I had an advert in MBY and have had no response at all, none. But when I listed the boat with the main dealer the boat sold in (quite literally) ten minutes. We knew that if buyers would simply view our boat (and they were serious buyers) that she would sell straight away, but simply nobody came to see her! So we ended up paying £8k to the broker whereas we were passing half that saving on to any private buyer that came forward. So my conclusion is that nobody responds to private ads - unless you can tell me different.

Just sold my boat privately. Advertising cost was nothing and ended up not losing compared to purchase price over two yrs ago. It took less than a month and apart from one cancelled appointment everything was easy. Admittedly my boat was significantly cheaper and therefore wider appeal than yours.

Advertised in B & O, Apollo Duck, Boats for sale, freeads, adtrader etc and recieved approx 8 enquiries. Did not use MBY because they want paying and felt that people looking would use other sources.

A lot of people are so busy with work that they just go to the brokers, say what they want and let them find it.
It is also possibly a reflection that many private vendors do not bother to present a boat "for sale".
I won't even go to look at a boat now for which I have not received comprehensive digital photo's, both inside and out. At least it helps to eliminate the serious dross.
I think Boats and Yachts is the magazine that serious buyers look at. A combination of colour ad' + ref' to a website/ email address where further photo's can be found works for me.

CURRENTLY ADVERTISING IN MBY.

loads of interest but most have boats to sell themselves through brokers.
