I have a client who has bought a classic Riva 34 Summertime 1978,from a UK boatyard who have restored it. She is bringing out to our marina and asked me which docs the marina will ask for. I said insurance, bill of sale, reg doc.

She has a VAT receipt from the boatyard but obviously not the original 1978 receipt. Do you think this will suffice?

Hi Clive

I've tried a couple of searches and, obviously, can't find the right keywords because this has been discussed before here. I think the problem is that unless there is an original VAT invoice you have to show evidence of use in the EU before ?? 1982 else they MAY try + make you pay VAT again. An invoice showing work done on a boat doesn't in any way prove that the original VAT has been paid.

No doubt somebody else will find the right search terms

Best wishes

Anthony
