blowing his own trumpet comes to mind.

Ouch, not intentionally and apologies to anyone who felt I was self promoting.

What I was trying to say that owning an older wooden boat doesn't make one a Luddite. For me the older, non pc gizmo style of boating is a nice way to leave the day job alone.

I fear my original comment has been completely misconstrued. I just didn't, and still don't, understand the connection between what somebody does for a living and their choice of boat.

Why the need for a separate Forum section? Does it matter whether the boat is GRP, steel, wooden or concrete? is the material the main criterion for the boat to be called classic? I treat all question on this forum the same whether wooden or GRP or 1960's or 2010; naturally, the older the boat, the more fascination and enthusiasm it attracts.

No doubt about it, that's true. But all the Classic Boat readers, and forum users, have been dis-enfranchised.

The topics on a classic forum are as different as between yotties and mobo's....and they're not on the same forums.

Well I'm a distinctly sail type, but I could recognise the craftsmanship when invited aboard a Fairey Huntsman at Lyminton ( Ta if reading, bomb disposal chap, hat off to you ).

- some of us sail types are surprisingly on the same side as our power cousins, and I predict this will become a lot more mutual as time goes on and the chavs in speedboats sort themselves out by Darwinian Selection- maybe in some cases the RNLI shouldn't try too hard !
