Well if the Red Arrows are there, don't anchor anywhere near where their low level crossover will be. Twenty years ago at Brighton they did a display and several boats anchored for a grandstand view. One of the Red Arrows jets clipped a yacht mast, pilot ejected and his plane ditched into the sea. Amazingly no one was hurt but the people on the yacht were definitely too close.
was thinking of giving it a look on the way passed as we hope to be going up the coast from the crouch. Is it like S/End they have a no go zone ?
Any way we are looking forward to ring side seats.See you there?
If I remember right from an old web-site ..... the yacht in question was actually not anchored but crossing the no-go zone ..... there used to be a picture of the yacht JUST before 'impact' on the web to do with Red Arrows. The site also said that the RAF had increased the height that RA are allowed to drop to ...... didn't seem to make any difference tio Calshot when I was at Western Shore watching the second days display .... having done my bit on the first days Schneider Commemorative model /air show at Calshot .... the Red arrows were knife-edging between the trees out to the soton water ..... amazing.
We even managed to get Concorde at end of one of her Champagne Bicay flights to go low and fly as close as poss the Schneider trophy course ..... never ever forget .... over the L/speakers was the pilot and ATC coversation as she was guided in .... etc.
The Clacton show has a clearly marked "exclusion zone", and you just anchor anywhere outside it. The view is fantastic! Find out which FM frequency is being used for the live commentary - it's quite informative.
