Quick question to the knowledgable.

I need to replace the circlip (bent in removal as it only had about 8mm clearance to get the pliers in so had to resort to other methods) on the shaft of a Yanmar 3GM, Johnson pump. It is on the ‘dry’ side. Are there special ’marine highly expensive‘ circlips or will standard every other job circlips do?

I replaced one with a rubber o-ring. It's only there to throw off any water that gets past the seal.

That then comes out of the tell-tale holes and you can see it's time to renew the seal.

Thanks for the responses. Never thought to look at ASAP.

So standard steel but the price £4+ per single item!

Ebay / Amazon it is, 200 assorted for the same price!

I just replaced the lip seal on my Johnson F5B, ASAP wanted £24 for one, found elsewhere for £3.99. Full repair kit including bearings x 2, cover screws, gasket, impeller & lip seal £43 inc. postage from Germany...

A link would be useful, please, for future use.

As everyone else has observed a circlip is a circlip; the only variation is what the material is, the original would likely have been bright zinc plated steel or perhaps blackened steel, replacing with a stainless steel clip might be advantageous if it's likely to see seawater.
