Cillit Bang and (lack of) stain removal

I was a bit miffed when cleaning up after the winter that my Cillit Bang didn't get rid of the rust stains.

I've Just had a conversation with Reckit and Wotsit about the efficacy of their new formulation and sadly it looks like I'll have to find an alternative.

If the liquid's clear rather than pink, and it has "New Formula!" on the label, don't waste your time.

Which particular Cillit Bang are you referring too.There are many.
Power Cleaner Grime and Lime ?
It used to contain sulphamic acid .... still does according to their website and still said to be suitable for rust stain removal.

Both our new bottle and the old one are labelled "new formula"

Sorry, Grime and Lime, orange and purple bottle that's supposed to remove rust stains.

The formulation has apparently changed a coupe of times recently according to the rep.

Their websites are no up to date then..... its true there is no mention there of "new formula"

Stick to a oxalic acid or something containing it.
I have tub of powder. I wet the surface, sprinkle it on and the rust stains have gone in a few minutes. I forget what its called I've had it for 30 odd years. Works well but I seldom bother to use it.

+1 Oxalic acid is the stuff of magic. make it up, work it on gently with a brush, rinse off. Job Done.

There are many varieties of Harpic. Not all will be effective at removing rust stains
Those that will remove rust stains are those that also remove limescale and in most cases contain hydrochloric acid.
