Our boat search continues, though with a couple of leading contenders...

Aside from them, a boat with Chrysler Nissan engines (I don't know a model number yet but they are 106 HP straight sixes, yellow in colour) has caught my eye, but the limited information I can find on sources of spares suggests that they're a complete no-no.

Can anyone correct me?

Haven't seen one for a while but sounds like the Nissan SD33 as found in the Nissan Patrol and forklifts, was a good strong engine in its day although I would check availability of the marine parts.

They sound like very old volvo aqd32 which are rebadged Peugeot tractor engines themselves which were marketed in the 1960 or 70s volvo have a museum in Gothenburg which is the only place you would want to see them.
at that age a barge pole would not be long enough to touch them with

Thanks both, I think aquapower has the right engine in mind. They are not of the vintage to be old AQD32s, according to the information to hand.

Didnt the black cabs use the same engine for a while, maybe still do?

May surprise some people but Chrysler Marine was a big player at one time, gasoline engines dating back to the late 1920's.

During the 1960's Chrysler Marine acquired West Bend outboards and one time were even producing boats AND trailers.

During 1970's Chrysler began talking to Nissan Diesel and produced their own marinised version of the Nissan IDI SD 33 engine and many were sold to Bayliner.

Unique marinisation stuff, manifolds raw water pumps, became hard to get 20 years ago, now pretty much impossible. When Chrysler sold marine division to Bayliner they suffered huge losses and virtually gave the poison pill to Brunswick who dumped all the products, taking another competitor out of the market.

Any vessel with one of these engines has to be considered a re-power.

That was the TD27, not sure what's fitted now.

Didnt know that, its just I see some coming down the A2 early hours, most doing 50mph and some doing well over the speed limit and I did notice the word Nissan on one, but not sure of its age

SD 33 bears NO family relationship whatsoever with later Nissan engines. For a start old Chrysler Nissan motors had Diesel Kikki fuel pumps with horrible pneumatic governing, this was all Stone Age technology. Just think about it 3.3 litre in-line 6 cylinder IDI engine with only four bearing crank, developing just 90 hp.

Life has moved on.
