Yes, I know it's a long, long way off, but here at the magazine we've begun to work on the Christmas issue. Some of you may have noticed that I nick bits off the forum every month for Boatman's Notes, and I wonder now if any of you had any Christmas advice? It could be boat-related (anyone buy their boat a pressie for instance?), or non-boat-related (I'm sure there are some novel solutions to keeping the Christmas tree upright). They can even be in verse... Thanks!

The only bit of advice I'd offer is to leave the boat in until March or April, (when the weather is generally warmer for refitting) and enjoy some great winter sailing while most people are ashore!

Shhh...don't let on...I like the yard nice and quiet!

Xmas tends to be a time when family members take on unusual and unfamiliar tasks.
A friend of mine confided that he became really stressed about his wife loading the dishwasher illogically, although it's normally her job.
My advice is to stay away from the kitchen if it's not your area of expertise.

I think you'll find this is popular advice.

Thanks for that folks. And, sorry, no bottles of whisky, though bottles of Old Pulteney whisky are available for the best letter written to the magazine every month. Little secret: they're not always brilliant (though about half the time they are), so writing the best letter is not all that difficult... And, I've said this a thousand times, but we are always after post-it notes for Boatman's Notes. They only pay £10 each, but send a couple of good'uns (email them to me at steffan_hughes@ipcmedia.com), it will take you about two minutes, and you will get £20. This buys a bottle of smoky Islay malt, though probably only a Bowmore. But that's quite nice whisky isn't it? Short articles on boat maintenance / restoration are also welcome, but do let me know what you are thinking of before you write it.

For any one who wishes to do some sail training we have in SA some good RYA sail schools and it is nice and warm over Christmas in the southern hemisphere.

West coast and east coast sailing is quite different and of cause the game parks. etc.

It is also very cheep compaired to the UK

PS I have no busness in sailing just a project boat.
