Perhaps I've taken my eye off the ball, but I have to say that I'm very disappointed at the turnout for this years seasonal trolling competition on Scuttlebutt. However, my nominations are; <ul type="square"> Third place: T25's Serious question Re. AIS . Good effort, but towards the end I felt that it started to become a bit samey. However, there were some good original lines that weren't picked up at the time eg "I'm freezing cold and approaching a busy shipping area so even without charts I realise I'm likely to be heading into a dreaded TSS." Blimey. Too subtle perhaps.

Second place: DAKA's Sail gives way to power . Marvellous - completely barmy suggestion and eccentric misinterpretations of the CollRegs - all the ingredients for another MOBO/raggie punchup. Well done guys for bringing fresh life into a well worn theme.

First place: Dyflin's Why the poor safety attitude? really does have all the hallmarks of a exceptionally good troll - take a simple issue, an ARC photo in YM, throw in a fortuitous reference to Twister owners believing that they're immortal, mix it all together, light blue touch paper and retire. Brilliant. For me, it was the intervention by non-sailing pg55 that was the icing on the cake. I wonder if pg55 and Dyflin are, by any chance, related. I think we should be told. [/list]Keep up the good work folks! It's kept us all cheery/amused/angry throughout a difficult year.

So, what were your favourite Trolls of the Season?

I have just been pointed in this direction, thanks for the mention and nomination ( I think /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif ).

I posted the original concept in belief of my idea open and aware to the possibilities I could have it wrong.

I have not actually read a reply* that has changed my idea and I hope I have encouraged a safer interpretation of the existing regulations.

I am still a little confused as to what a troll is but in trying to get my point across I have been annoyed, frustrated and amused almost at the same time but if your post helps bring awareness of correct compliance with the collision avoidance regs then that has to be good /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Any chance you can tell me which posts in that thread were the troll ones ?

* Robin made me realise that it is not always easy for sail to comply with their duty.

You want to be awarded first place for this one now don't you? Don't you? Well you can't have it because you are trying too hard....see??? /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I would like to thank my agent , Messrs Troll and Stir for their helpful contributions , and my mother for allowing me out of bed at such late hours , and my dog for keeping me company whilst playing /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Akshully though , it started off as a serious question but was transformed due to input from a South Coaster /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
Once that arrived it was obvious that play time was due /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
However , I must admit that the other two nominations were far superior to my pathetic attempt , but thanks for the award anyway /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Re: Christmas Trolling Competition: poor turnout, but some good effort

I thought 'Poor attitude to safety' was going to take it hands down but then he went off into the boring old Celtic anti-British rant so it has to be 'Sail gives way to power'.

Normally trolls are scored by the number of replies. So first prize to DANA? Sadly NO - he comitted the cardinal troller mistake of re-entering his own thread.

So by default it has to go to Freestyles's "Do you like sailing". A nice banal, trolly subject, perhaps not quite enough off topic - but good marks for artistic effect. And no reentry - max for technical merit. It certainly deserved more than a score of 20.

Good point. Perhaps that did somewhat take away from the effervescence of the early posts on the matter. But, nevertheless, still an excellent achievement imho.

Turning to another perennial issue, anchor threads just didn't really do it for me this Christmas. Any views?

Looks like the driving standards post in the lounge is ramping up nicely...

[/ QUOTE ] Ahem - gentlemen, ladies. You know I have never aspired to the insincerity so beloved of genuine trolls, but it is with gratitude that I accept Andrew's nomination for the most banal contribution . . .

[Audience: /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif ]

. . . and so I'm sure you'll join me in this celebration of all that is glorious about being a boring, middle-of-the-road spokesperson for the "lets wait until this blows over" silent majority [tear rolls down cheek].

Er - I trolled this the other day does it count, or could it be considered troll drift??

Err

No

Sorry but it is quite unethical to try to re-troll in a post that is seeking to evaluate previous trolls

You must take a forfeit and give way to the next 5 sailing boats that you see - whether you need to or not

So there!

Errm, but he's a sailing boat himself. That's why he has two helming positions - so he can choose the one that means he can't see the MoBo because of his sails.

Re: Christmas Trolling Competition: poor turnout, but some good effort

It will be my pleasure to give way to the next 5 sail craft I encounter in fact I have no objection to giving way all season (excluding narrow channels of course) /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Incidentally my only deliberate 'troll' post appeared to have been overlooked ?
it had me in fits of laughter along with lesgargots option3, but it appeared to be too subtle ,did anyone spot it ?

My trophy cabinet includes one for sailing a ha-trick of firsts (true) but then queried if everyone else motor sails during a race as well /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Wishing you all a Happy Christmas and safe 2008 season

cheers

Pete

I'm honoured with the nomination, but me, a troll?
