Choice of small fishing boat?

Can anyone advise.

I am looking for a small fishing boat and was considering something like the Arran 16. Two things I need are a small cuddy (the Arran is excellent for this as the cuddy can be removed if needed) and a self-draining cockpit.

The self-draining cockpit is required because the boat will have to be left in the water for longish periods and I don't want it swamped. I know I can fit an automatic pump and battery but some clown would only nick it.

Outboard preferred 8/15hp range.

Any suggestions as to type of vessel I should be looking for?

The Orkney range are very similar. I don't know whether I like the huge sheer on the Arran. Not a lot in it I suppose.

How about the Shetland 500 and 600?

Bod in the Marina has an Orkney 20 with a cabin/cuddy that looks proper.

Bonwitco are also popular with fishermen and enjoy a good reputation for safe sea going - something like Bonwitco 475? Treeve & Cygnus are also well regarded.

I'd vote for Bonwitco as well - strong little things. Otherwise I'd give Orkneys serious thought.
