Im thinking of buying a new outboard and wondered if anyone had any experience of the chinese ones. The price seems great but ive a mate with a chinese motor bike and there isnt a week goes buy that something dont fall off it or break which dosnt bode well if you need it in a hurry. 2.5hp 4 stroke would be fine its only to push a 18ft micro at present i have a 6hp yamaha which is to big size not weight

I have not used a Chinese o/u, but i have not heard of any bad things about them; apart of being heavier. They used to be much cheaper, but not any more, so stick to the ones with good reputation; for the time being, i will stick to the Tohatsu.

hi there - re the Chinese Outboards - I ask in a local Chandlery about them and they stated that most parts are Yamaha (if I remember ok) in origin - so most parts are easily obtained - this Chandlery also services Outboards and are prepared to service their supplied Chinese outbords, no prob.

but do not take my word for it, see what 'others' on here say!

good prices though, about £200 less that comparative outboards :)

I've seen them used a lot in Australia and US of A where they have a good reputation amongst boatowners.
They seem to have had them for years before someone started selling them here.

I bought a Chinese chainsaw last year, and it's been really great. It looks (and performs) exactly like a Stihl.

I was dubious about paying £89 for a saw that should cost about £400 (Stihl). It came with a small tool kit, a spare chain, a storage bag, chain protector and stuff.

Very impressed.

If outboards from there are as good, I'll get one when current outboard snuffs it.
