Sorry Hump .. know this is really your subject .. again! Hump and I were talking about when you go sailing. I'd just worked a 80hour week (Mon to Fri) and rushed down to Para's boat for the Cherbourg w/e. Stressed I'd say I was, did'nt know port from starboard, red from green, right from left. Made an elementary mistake in turning to port (quickest way out of the main channel) in front of a ferry but was swiftly corrected. Talking to Sgt Pepper later he had similar experiences. So perhaps as part of the boating experience we should attach a time release lock to our boat to ensure we can't leave until at least 2 hours after we've boarded. Chill out and check out time!!

Stress time works as far as moving contents of car to boat. The minute I'm on the boat and moving down through Lymington to the sea I'm on relaxed time. No break needed.

I always grin when I read stress out reports of trying to sleep in marinas with noises of wind and masts getting slapped. That noise to me says I'm on a boat, it's leisure time, and I sleep deeply in a way I never do ashore.

I agree with you. In fact after a 5 hour drive to the boat - and it's not just a week-end jaunt - we normally fix departure time for around lunch hour the following day. Everybody has time to relax, shower, shop, get the feel of the boat, etc and then everybody is anxious to leave feeling fresh and eager.

The first day's trip is then normally a 2/3 hour sail to a nice beach to get everybody in good humour. As a skipper who is dead keen on sailing this is a small price to pay for getting a sometimes recalcitrent crew into the right frame of mind.

Can I suggest you follow the equestrian example.. loadsa grooming before you get on.. suggest you spend an hour grooming your boat as this will create a strong bond between you and the boat (sika flex is good for this) and you will relax (mostly cus you are now physically knackered). Remember do not feed your boat for 2 hours before sailing otherwise the boat might get colic and roll.

PS I spend ages trying to work out who "Hump" was .. thought maybe you took a camel on board.. and whether it was a two hump or single hump (is this the camel equivalent to single and multihull or fin and bilge keels?) until I realized of course that it was Englebert.. sorry Humperdink

Easy life

Pah!! Only 80 hours! That's a holiday for real workers. Try harder next time, you could even save enuf to buy yerself a holding tank.

You don't deserve to own a boat, you whinging slacker! /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

what humps said was that even though he's fitter than ever before, he still needs a decent interval before setting off .. i'm fairly convinced that if you're not personally fit enough then such a passage would be difficult anyway. single handed as humps was brings a whole new set of travails ....

my personal fitness trainer and style guru has reaffirmed the good sense contained herein although i draw the line at the silk leotards and frilly grundies ... and, one might ask whether continuous r&r (the following day) after a particularly stressful night out is justification for this post which seems to be attempting to dress up a flagrant misuse of alcohol as common malady rather than self inflicted abuse ....

hope this helps ...
