\"Children not Welcome\" - The Ship in Levington

Recently went to the Ship in Levington, Suffolk. Was told "Children aren't welcome in here, we don't have a licence!!".

Correct me if I am wrong, but I didn't know you needed a licence to cater for Children?!?

Yes, you need an additional license for kids, and it's usually conditional on their being excluded from the area immediately adjacent to the Bar. Not every pub bothers to do it, because it sometimes means remedial work and extra hassle.

With two kids, aged 10 and 7, this is a live issue for us!

We avoid the place for this very reason. Mind you several adults I know haven't been made very welcome there either. Better calling in HPYC's lightship bar if you're in Suffolk Yacht Harbour for the night.

Thanks

Right in the middle of Suffolk Yacht Harbour at Levington - big red lightship! Its the clubhouse of Haven Ports Yacht Club who welcome visitors from other clubs & have excellent food & drink at the bar. Enjoy the cruise.

Thanks for that. We went to Levington's on our last East Coast trip about 7 years ago but we arrived late and left early so didn't see much of the place.

I expect we shall enjoy the trip - we are looking fwd to it.

The Ship has a deserved reputation for good food, and, frankly, if you are not there by 12.20 on weekdays you will not find a table. They really do not have space for children - and they are round the corner from OOCL's UK headquarters.

While I can see your points as parents some of us actually prefer place that do not allow children!

If I m trying to have a quiet meal poorly behaved or rather poorly taught children running around, shouting, crying etc is very annoying. Along with those parents who think it's fine for the kids to sit on tables, climb on seats, etc.

Same applies to places that try to sell themselves by advertising LIVE FOOTBALL/SKY SPORTS HERE/ETC!

Just my feelings /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif!

It's good of them to warn you.
We don't take children under 10 and don't have "family" rooms. We also lock the door at midnight. It sends a message.
The number of teachers and parent (and grandparents) who love escaping the ankle-biters is an eye-opener.

Children under 14 are not allowed in licensed premises unless a "Children's Certificate" has been applied for and obtained. They may use a seperate dining area or "family room" that does not have a bar in it.

Have kids, but have enjoyed a number of excellent meals at the ship. Good beers as well. Can even smoke still.
