Wonder has anyone had any experience of these doofers, saw a couple of systems at LIBS I think one was Murdo and another from Raymarine.

With our new 52 arriving in a few months little Nautical will have more opportunity to be out of my sight than on the current 39 footer where she can only be either next to me at the helm or opposite in the cockpit seating. With the new boat she can get down below (no sliding door to below as in the open sport cruiser its just an open companionway), hide in the galley or sneak out the patio doors into the cockpit. Of course she should be in sight at all times but you try keeping a five year old welded to the seat who's intent on exploring, its tough /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. If I had one of those MOB alarms strapped to her at least if she did escape for a few seconds unless the alarm goes off I know she is still safe on board.

And yes she does have her jacket on at all times (except if we take a picture or something cus the collar obscures half her face /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif).

Are they any good, has anyone tried one and once strapped on to the wrist can kids get them off easy?

Thanks chaps and chapesses

Not sure if you meant this in jest, but if you do use some sort of retraint it should be said, for safety sake, that the length on the restraint should not allow the child to reach the sides of the boat.

Take for instance a conventional safety line and imagine if the person wearing the line falls overboard when the boat is doing say 15 knots, the force of the harness on the persons back could cause serious injury.

Certainly falling overboard in a harness and only just reaching the water with the boat is at higher speeds is even more scaring as they would be crashing on the side of the hull.

We have raymarine system. works very well , if Sam gets of to turn on shore power, siren goes off etc. Would have liked raymarine plotter etc which automatically plots MOB but simrad fitted on helm better. Still only have to hit a button if alarm sounds. It is a good idea to have s separate switch fitted next to main unit, so you can switch whole system off & on again if little fingers start to play with buttons. We fitted tags onto life-jackets for extra peace of mind.

I have installed the Raymarine version linked into a E120. I wanted to throw the kids into the water but was not allowed and therefore had to send them down the pontoon - all held broke loose and the E120 shows a timer and a position.

Thanks guys, looks like the Raymarine lifetag is what we need, quite expensive kit but then what price peace of mind!

Mind you I can see little Nautical pushing the panic button just to give daddy a heart attack /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
