CHICHESTER HARBOUR - STOLEN OUTBOARDS & INFLATABLES

The Chichester Observer reported yesterday (5 July) that a collection of outboard engines and inflatable dinghies have been recovered by the Police in Chichester. Photographs of the recovered items can be found at Virtual Bumblebee

All thefts from Chichester Harbour should be reported to the local police and to the Harbour Patrol. More information can be found on the Patrol page of the Conservancy's website.

Looks like three dinghies and five outboards - not a bad haul. Let's hope they caught the thieves too.

Why? We don't lock up petty thieves any more do we? The law is too busy locking away octogenarians incapable of paying their council tax and such other worthwhile pursuits.

Ahem, I hate to spoil a good rant but the guys that stole tackle from my fishing boat have both been caught, one is doing 4 years, the other is up before the beak next week. The plods have even been giving me regular updates as to the progress on the case. So don't despair....

Chris,that is excellent news.
Our neighbourhood community policeman summed up things quite recently by saying that so many 'minor' crimes are commited by young men who are basically building up a pattern of marking time between periods of incarceration-rather a bleak view, but I do notice that each years new crop of hardcase cocky teenagers dont last very long at petty drug dealing, car crime, moped joyriding and burglary....Making eye contact with everyone who wanders down this (side) street, you soon get to know who's doing what to a large extent, and the bad uns simply disappear after 2 months-maybe they graduate to days out in the country 'shopping' ?
