Those of you who use Chichester may be aware that Eastoke beacon has been moved, well actually replace with a buoy, due to the sandspit extending across the entrance. I took advantage of the fine weather and zero wind yesterday to take Aurelia on a proving run following the port outdrive rebuild, and took a few of photos of the entrance. The change narrows the entrance a fair bit pushing everyone towards the eastern side. Could make things quite interesting given how busy the area gets...

Long range pic going out for scale...

That leaves a lot of safe deep water not in use, perhaps they are thinking of putting a jet ski zone in , between there and HISC would be ideal, they must be loosing a lot of jet ski revenue (except the fines) to Langston who have a very busy inland jet ski area.

It does doesn't it ... Coming in during an ebb I'll quite often just contor hunt along that side ... oh well - just means I don't have a mark to get in my way now! ;)

The change to the Eastoke beacon and other changes around East head and the Sandhead area are all documented in the Local notices to mariners on the Chichester harbour website.

thanks for the photo of the new Eastoke buoy.

HI,
Can I ask you why its called Ritzies passage?

Yes, you can.
It was named after a well known Sea Cap'n "Ritz" from th Hayling area, known to be a bowls friend of Drake. He could manage to turn right inshore by Eastoke in the largest boats of his time to use the Chi' harbour entrance.

If you watch this space, you'll probably find 'Split 2' has filled it up. Not worth trying til you've seen it a LWS. :)
