Local Notice to Mariners No 9 of 2013

UNDERWATER OBSTRUCTION IN THE VICINITY OF WINNER SOUTH CARDINAL BUOY - HAYLING BAY

1. It has been reported that two vessels have hit an underwater obstruction, west of the unlighted Winner South Cardinal Buoy, Hayling Bay, in approximate position:

50° 45′.1N, 001° 01′.2W

2. The location is due to be surveyed 30 July 2013

3. Vessels are advised to proceed with extreme caution if required to transit this area.

Well it will be interesting to see what it is. It must be a wreck I can't imagine that some seismic activity has given birth tho a new rock,

Not heard of any seismic activity off Hayling Island in a while...... Perhaps proof of alien activity? a submarine exercise or a gaggle, or is it a herd of unmarked pots ? the latter might be more likely. Should be interesting survey outcome.

Has anyone seen an update on this yet? - From the damage caused (saw one of the vessels today) and it being on main route from Chi to IOW I would have thought a survey result would be newsworthy.

From the website:

Underwater Obstruction Update - Hayling Bay

The Queens Harbour Master in Portsmouth has carried out two surveys and no obstruction has been found. The navigation warning issued by them has also been removed.

Keep your eyes open for any new Local Notice to Mariners.

According to the latest Chi Harbour newsletter QHM has surveyed the area of concern and nothing has been found.

Edit: SNAP!!

I think there is a mostly submerged boat (?) around. In Jan we were anchored up at East head, well into the channel being concious that there is a bump in the seabed. Had two tides without a problem, then on the third LW, as the boat swung I was momentarily getting what would have been a grounding. There was also a thread on the forum a little while back, where a semi submerged boat was reported in the Emsworth Channel. Could it be that this old hulk is drifting backward and forward on the tide?

It is the "Flying Dutchman" from "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest". As soon as the Kraken arrives it will rise from the watery depths and claim your boat as a prize.

Now we know what took out those two Sealines. Probably the Roway too.

;)

A few year ago we passed a submerged fridge in the entrance to Chichester - it was floating about a metre below the surface maybe the Flying Dutchman has thrown one overboard ? that would easily remove a prop or two.
