Just got the News and Guide from the harbour masters office.

I knew in advance they were going to try and keep the peace between all the users of this waterway by using an educational approach. They have a quetion and answer page . questions often asked by powerboaters about dinghy racing etc.In my opinion very valid questions Why do they always get in your way , the track always across the way out or way in to anywhere.
It turns out they know everything, powerboaters nothing and its their right of way. Its worth a read .So nothing new and it has not made me feel any better knowing why!!! they do it. I do not wish disharmony but equal understanding.

Nice to see that the harmony still exists in the UK?

One of our crew is a laser sailor and he likes the control of making powerboats get out of his way......... he works on a powerboat!!

I think I am right in saying that the Chichester Yacht club dinghy sailors have to sign a form which stipulates they have no right of way in the approach to the marina. In fact they have to give way, not that any of them take notice......

you are correct they dosign something but the gleam in thier eye as they cut you up is something to behold .
why do all race circuits go across the main traffic lines and not along side. Why do they stare you in the face and cut across your bow, ignorance? arrogance? or because they can.
They also advise powerboats to avoid races . in Chi harbour HOW?????

I think it was an interesting article that tries to explain the problems , and I found it of use. But the Harbour isnt free to re-write the Intl regulations for its own waters, so in very general terms, us on power still have to struggle our way out of the harbour at 8knts (MIND YOUR WASH ****), while mega performance racing dinghies carve us up at 25knts. What I think it made me realise was that those fiercely competetive types in these things are desperately focused on all these tactical gains, whereas perhaps all other boaters are trying to be a bit more co-operative maybe. In other words, its much more important to get 5m ahead than it is to try to share the waters with others. The article did come accross as a bit one sided...us racing dinghies (mostly) have the law on our side, so no need for us to compromise...
