I am new on here, so please forgive any faux-pars.
In September I bourght a 59 year old Cheverton. She is based on a folkboat but a bit longer, bit broader and a slightly higher coach roof. The previous owner was sailing her weekly and we sailed her from Portland to the Hamble together. That said, she is in need of some tlc.
There is a lot to do to get her as she should be. Some is going to be yard work and some I shall do myself. I have a set of plans (so that should be helpful) and have been taking advice and quotes from local suppliers.
At this stage in the game, I could really do with some advice on the best:
1) Independent company or boatyard in the Solent area for wooden boat restoration?
2) I will need various bits and pieces but don’t want the new stuff to look out of place. Where can I get authentic bits?
3) I have an authentic set of steering and hand held compasses that were onboard. But over the years some of the spirit in the steering compass has evaporated. Does anyone know of a good restorer for this sort of thing?
Finally, if anyone owns or knows of another Cheverton Carelle Mk2 owner, I would be pleased to talk.
Thanks in advance for comments and advice.
Cheers,
Phill
