Went to a restaurant called the Le Vauban this week. The restaurant has been in new ownership for about 6 months, run by a husband and wife team. Food was simply excellent, just about on a par with a one star Michelin establishment. If you want a blow out night I'd highly recommend it. Cost including a very good bottle of wine was 111 Euros, for two.

Agreed, and would also recommend Restaurant Cafe de Paris, their 22 Euro menu is excellent. Open on Mondays when many are not.

Interesting comment made regarding this restaurant. Going back admittedly many years when madame ran it, I had some wonderful and sometimes noisy meals there. Her fruits de mer were quite something. Then it fell into the hands of others "that lot from Paris" I heard it put. Then others tried it but none seemed to make much of it. For years I have been hard put to know where to get a reasonable meal in Cherbourg so it is good to hear the Cafe de Paris and le Vauban are improving the standards. For those who do not know, the Cafe de Paris is close to and fronts the cut to the lock/bridge leading into the inner harbour. Cherbourg is quite a large town so does anyone know where the restaurant le Vauban is?

50 yards from Cafe De Paris towards the marina, it is a hotel restaurant on the corner by a side street.

L'Aigue Marine, same road 100 yds farther towards the marina is also good.

Le Faitout, 25 Rue Tour Carrée, is very good.
