I'm off to Cherbourg this weekend for the first time since I was a kid, and I note that the almanac says Chantereyne has short bouncy fingers, and that it has hoops instead of cleats.

Anyone got any pics of these, or care to offer advice on the best way to secure your mooring warps to them? I assume short is best, and springs run from mid-cleats onboard, but I'd welcome some advice from those who have been there recently.

With a hoop/Ring just tie a bowlin on the ring and adjust on the cleat on your boat.

Personally i dont like rings as with a midship ring you cant use one rope to provide springs to both ends of your boat.

I think all the visitor pontoons were upraded last year so may not be an issue now.

However, always a good idea to work out how you would tie up on a pontoon half your boat length prior to visiting France.

Never mind the legs, what about the engine should that not be in the boat ? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I took a Sealine rally there last August and all the visitors pontoons had been replaced with proper friendly type.
Electric is the same as U/K marina.
Enjoy your trip.

Don't you need your outdrives fitted before you attempt this trip?

It might be a long row if they aren't back on by Thursday night! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif And I undertand a small wager is in place as to whether the boat can be made ready for sea by then. I'm quietly confident that Tony will get it done in time.

The starboard engine was supposed to be craned back in yesterday, so as long as that happened there's still plenty of time to get the legs back on and all sorted out.

Tony says he has never lost a bet yet, but I'm willing to lob a bottle of champers to the winner of the wager (as long as its Tony!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

the new visitor pontoons are fine now with sensible cleats /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif it was a few years ago when they had loops and were like diving boards /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I was there two weeks ago. There are several visitors pontoons at Cherbourg P and Q being the main ones. Q has been upgraded (it is the one furthest east or nearest the ferries if you like). P has some updraded and some not, I watched three guys jump onto a P finger and take the finger under water with them on it.
