I'm new on line and I lived in Cherbourg from 96 to 98. So:
I think that the excitement with your next trip is the right moment to come on stage
Be careful, it seems that the "Elite Pathfinder" made a lot of fuss,
they are up in arms over there, waiting for "Tailend Charlies".
Plans are under way to bring back into action WW2 big guns against new invaders!
Gendarmerie reinforcement are on watch to prevent the town from looting by commandos, especially at the flags masts!
On the other hand "Au Tire Bouchon" sounds a nice place for a meal and some bottles of wine! May be a long way back to harbour if you come across Rue de La Paix also know as "Rue de la Soif" (street of thirst)...

Ooh - flag theft - that will be the pot calling the kettle black!! I lost three ensigns in four days to trophy hunters in La Rochelle last year (I know - you'll tell me they are bad people to live in the Vendee - all the honest Frenchmen live in either Normandie or Brittany). In the end I kep my last good sized ensign, and went to buy a little, tiny, courtesy ensign from a chandlery, and tied it so far up the backstay you couldnt reach it from deck, and only swapped it for a real ensign when we left.

Report to "Elite Pathfinder Rec..." thread,
Tcm's had been reckless than that. It's not courtesy flag he went for! but the big Union Jack on top of a flagstaff and near Napoleon statue...
Quite outrageous indeed!

I'm must apologise most profusely if it appears that some kind of diplomatic/military incident has resulted from our short hedonistic foray to Cherbourg last weekend. We planned just a quick nip in there, check the place out, buy some criossants, fill up with water and return. Unfortunately, La rue de soif did indeed tempt us away from our original plan. However, had the capitanerie loos been open rather more often, we wouldn't have had to visit so many retail establishments in order to use their facilities. Most of the damage to civil property was minor however and the black economy of the town certainly profited admirably from our excursion. In defence of the crew (I of course was on board at all times) I can only suggest that the stress induced by weather related delays rekindled somewhat neanderthal behaviour. My regards to Mme LaPlume.

"Rue de la Soif" real name is Rue de La Paix (Peace Street), so I'll plead your cause to the Gendarmerie Colonel.
I think that we can reach a Gentleman's agreement.
I hope Capitainerie will still be close next weekend. It'll save some Euros for the last round.
I'm sure "Tail-end Charlies" prefer to be welcome by Madame LaPlume than MarinaFee...
(if really Tcm went up the greasy pole he must be from the same family than Captain and brother Pat).
