Ten days ago I think there was a post about eating in Cherbourg.....Cafe de Paris last week was v. arrogant (suited the name I suppose) and average food. A few doors up at La Regence lovely people, much better food and the best value wine I can remember for ages.

Small. No good for the big bash if that is what you are thinking about. The Yacht Club were fantastic last month at the R Soton 2 hander evening dinner. They really tried to get everyone sorted anfd it was a terrific evening.

Cherbourg yacht club - I have eaten there many times after a late arrival and have not had a bad meal yet, always received good service too - reasonable prices as well.

Just a thought

T Ken... I was at Cherbourg weekend just gone.... After reading the post on eateries, and trying to analyse replies plumped for La Regance ( a Logis de France joint) mainly 'cause someone said french was being spoken there...
I phoned from here to book 8 places on Sat night but when I called in on Sat am, having arrived v late Friday, found we were stuck right at the back so cancelled and went to Cafe de P... Food was good but a little pricey at about £ 32 each incl wine.
The wine was chosen for us by the Cave Dubigney guy whom we had invited for a drink or two as he had bought two of us lunch. I tend to buy my wine there as you can taste it and of course, they deliver. No shoving trolleys down the streets on a hot pm exuding alcohol from every pore!
I have to say that when I was a biker in the 80's and 90's I always used the Logis de France chain and only had two bad places ..both way down near the Med..
I've eaten at La Reg.. twice and always been happy with the results... I've got a list of the restaurants in Chb somewhere if you want a copy mail me off list..

Waiting for the next visit with you guys and breath bated... Cheers Bob E

I've been well off the pace, in fact right off the forum for past few days. This is because I've started a new work assignment (waited 3 months then 2 came at once!), retrieved our manky old boat from its engine overhaul, them attended a superb wedding and got very relaxed by midnight Saturday.

Besides, I would rather know we are aiming for a specific date before talking to the restuarants any more - it just makes the conversation so much easier!

Will get it next week i.e by 12th Aug, if that's OK with you, cappnn?!

Agreed. I've been going to the Cafe de Paris for many years, but recently SWMBO had a spat with a very arrogant waiter after an indifferent expensive meal and refuses to go back. La Regence much better.

Had a great steak in the Yacht Club last Friday night. Good food and wine, reasonable prices and friendly service.

Don't laugh, but my family had a really nice meal in the bowling alley!

With two young kids, we always end up in a bowling competition, and I (Dad) was talked into eating there........... I was very pleasantly surprised, the food was really good.

Also, the yacht club at Port Chanteraine, is very nice also, if you don't feel like a long walk.

Out of interest to you all

We have a tradition of eating in "La Taverne" in the Pl d Napoleon - probably holds 30 people. Good food reasonable prices.
