SWMBO and myself have been trying to think up a name for a new toy we are getting. Me, being male, immature and generally silly keeps having all suggestions turned down by her ladyship, but it did get me thinking!

What are the worst boat names you have come across!

We have one near us call "Knot a Clew" (which seems to be apt!)

I wanted "Juicy Cleats" but guess what! Not allowed!!

"Blow Job" also suited a yacht well, as did "Break like the Wind"(the spinal tap album!)! both had a similar response!

Suggestions please!

Good choice !! If you buy one, it will of course have a name already.

If you join the MOA for a mere 20 quid a year, you can access the full list of members on line, sort it by boat name, to see what is already in use etc.

You will also get all the other benefits of membership, of which the full website is a key component, IMO.

Sorry for the thread drift !!

Good luck.

Next time you think up a name , picture yourself or SWMBO saying it over the VHF, and if you can see if that is OK, only then suggest it to SWMBO.

I see you have started a variation on the game of "Why don't you? ...Yes, but ..."

Just remember that this is a game you cannot win with SWMBO. So you need to start a new game, called "you choose" - now SWMBO will not like this game cos she prefers "why don't you? ... Yes, but ..." . However, you will have indicated that you no longer want to play this game and you will have to jointly find a game that you both enjoy. This is called "sensible decision-making". It involves you not taking the piss by thinking up names you know she won't agree to and her actuallly agreeing to something. The key to a win-win at this game is to realise there isn't one but you are trying to win a different game. So how to end the game and win your game? Basically you need to come up with a list of names that you know she will like and which you can live with. This has the added benefit that SWMBO feels closer to the boat as she chose the name in the end. Now this is where the real win comes in cos you have been playing a bigger and more important game all along and it's called "let''s go sailing". This works by finishing off the sentence with the name of the boat that she chose. Warm feeling and off you go sailing.

Works a treat.

I must admit that I think your SWMBO is right. The trouble with clever or funny names is that, once you've heard the joke it's no longer funny a second time. It's a bit like hearing the same joke time and time again, very boring.

Let SWMBO name the boat, she's obviously got the right idea! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
