But it's a good way of demonstrating the seaworthiness of a boat.
For my money, the perfect example of this was the crossing in 1951 by Colin Mudie and Patrick Ellam in Sopranino. Most said the 20 ft boat was not capable; doing it with two crew in the space available was probably harder than singlehanded!
Their book is a masterpiece of the stiff upper lip and British phlegm under stress, and very funny with it. All the better as the boat was built in Cookham Dean by Woottons, alas no longer there.
