The new owner of my old boat is chasing me - something to do with fuel starvation or the "bug" on the starboard engine. He's had the dammd thing for two months or so, I've returned his call once but missed him - apparently he's a bit angry with me...

Should I be angry with him for dropping a trade into the deal at the last moment? Or for the fact that he got the boat fully kitted and ready to go, spares, flares, jackets etc...

The boat yard that handled the sale then phoned me up and said "We told him not to call you, it's nothing to do with you, but he was adamant".

And he's got one of my 1000 burgerreees

PS. Replacement boat (such as it is) is progressing slowly, very very slowly.

A different direction, 19/22 footer, centre steering, with bow cushions, lowish freeboard and a big 200 or so HP outboard hanging off the back. Plan to use it for day boating / cove hopping in the Med.

Don't know what end of the budget you're looking at but I can recommend the Jeannau Cap Camarat.

I chartered the 755 in SoF last September, got cuaght out in a 2m swell between the Lerin Islands but the boat handled brialliantly in the rough stuff and it really was alot of fun to drive. Very practical med boat for cove hoping. Great sun awning that covered most of the boat with great head room, huge foredeck sun bed that 4 big adults used to layout on and great performance with the 250ho outboard. Plenty of seating for 6/7 ish and a loo v berth sink and ice box in the cuddy. Centre steering sitting or standing with great visibility. Some nice wood touches and a proper size transom ladder and transom shower.

I'd go for one of these with two out boards for extra poke.

Yes fully agree, those cap cams are excellent. I believe white sharks are good too.

Re outboards, get a massive one, praps 250hp on a 21 footer. Also, get a Merc or a Yam. I wonder about the twin versus single thing. They're very relaible so that's not a reason for x2. The fuel burn is high, and a single is much more economical. It's not just a cost thing, it's hassle of filling up al the time. The 250 will give you 45 knots say, so your passengers will think they're on a roller coaster ride anyway, hence the (say) 50 knots that 2x 175 will give you is mebbe not worth it? And 2 motors will burn extra capital cost that is better deployed buying a boat 2 foot longer?

Oh, back to the thread. Give him the same treatment as the guy who bort your Stag then complained - give him 2 grand....oooops I mean tellim to bugger off (in fact, could they be related.....?)

Re: fred drift

On second thoughts jfm's right about capital cost and running cost, the 755 with a single 250hp did 45 knots and it was an easier to handle single than my 22 foot maxum probably coz it has a deeper v and went where you pointed it. So lot of money for an extra 5 hp.

Re: An understatement

Thinking of a 22 .... seen one with surface drives (they are happy to strengthen hull and work with you to give you what you want....). Not disputing the cost, but they are serious performers...

Re: more Alternatives

Good choices divemaster, though Gozzi have nothing between the 17 footer and the 29. Big gap in the range

We're moving up the price spectrum here. In which case why not a Wally :)

Who gave the buyer your number, you or the boat yard? If it was you then sadly that's probably the price you pay for being nice/helpful. If it was the boat yard then I'd be bloody annoyed.

In any case there are two recommended responses.....

1) It was alright when I sold it.
2) Blame/sue your surveyor, not me.

Re: An understatement

Goldfish is a bootiful boat. Monaco Marine have been trying to get the rights off that mob in Baie des Anges. Fully specced around £150000 new, but what build quality. Agree about Cap and White Shark but aren't they really just cheaper Whaler alternatives??
