We had to have a new through .hull fitting with sea cock and all the fittings.
I wonder how i have to check for weed or debris getting in there. The previous bronze fitting had a simple weed trap inside. We just had to close sea cock and unscrew the cap on the top pull up the strainer check it out and put it back.
will.this be the same but by removing the 4 bolts. That's OK but doesn't encourage crew to. make a frequent check?!

I have one of those and think they are very good.
They can take a lot of weed before things start slowing down on the flow.
Yes, undo the four bolts (I grease mine) and easy to clean and pop it back in. I have a little Bahco socket set and worth marking somewhere what the socket size is so you get the correct one first time.
This summer, we picked up a load of weed and I was able to get in, clean filter and back together safely in a fast-flowing narrow Brittany river (interesting!). Depending on your set up, once opened up, you can get a rod straight down and through the thru-hull to clear the big stuff, or use an Avon dinghy pump which I think you will find fits the inlet to the filter.
