checking history of boat

Is there anyway of checking whether a boat has had its name changed, or if it has been used for charter. I am doing a historical search on part 1, with history going back to 93. SSR have no record of the boat. What are the possibilitys of the boat having changed its name before this date, and being tracable.

Unless you're lucky enough to have an old-style part one from the year of build [smug mode=on] then I think you're going to have to turn detective and try and find all the boatyards and owners going back in time. Not easy, given the propensity of people to move house and the thoroughness of (pre-PC age) boatyards' record keeping.

The boat's VHF callsign (if it had a licence) will probably have been the same since the start and could be associated with different names/owners. Just a thought. take a look at www.itu.int/ITU-R/terrestrial/mars/index.asp You can firkle about in there for boat details.... good luck

i have looked at MARS and the boat is on there, i will try tomorrow you never know they might be able to do a historical search, good thinking, many thanks to you.
