I was planning a trip to Shetland last year when I realised the northernmost limit on my policy was Bergen - about 30 M south of the northernmost point of Shetland. I rang the insurers who were happy to put in writing that I was covered. But I don't go for the cheapest insurance - I am happy to pay more because I have cover for unrestricted singlehanding ('no minimum crew restrictions') and 12 months in commission.
