Hi all,

Went to Lymington last weekend on the boat and had a great time. Even better when I saw this and managed to get the camera out in time....clicky

He did a few victory parades in front of the crowds sat on the wall before retiring back to lounging on the bathing platform of his Squadron (maybe a formurite?).......Great idea for an alternative tender, and really funny! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

We were there out on the buoys and saw him go by - the tug also had a fire pump on the bow that sprayed water.

We saw the local fishermen with a greener form of propulsion a few weeks back - 2 labs and a springer - 3 dog power:

I was having some difficulty in heaving a line across a gap recently. Here's the answer: a radio controlled boat or a dog. Perhaps the dog could be trained to drop a bowline over a cleat?
 
Tee hee! Thanks, made me laugh too. Those kayaks are made by Sevylor and are brilliant fun. See pictures 9 and 10 in this post. I'd definitely recommend them. Houghn and Magnum have acquired them too, this summer. I'm not understnading stooza's complaint- they are only £300 or so, and if they impress your friends it'll be becuase they are just lots of fun :-)

These canoes do seem to be getting ever more popular. Just can't decide whether a 2 man or 2x1 man is better.
 
Ah yes, fully understandable LJS, pic 9 does have distractions :-).

I went for the 2 man - more fun imho. I sit at the back and pretend to paddle, while Ms Unwitting Accomplice does all the hard work up front and I just enjoy the view. You can paddle the 2-er on your own anyway. Magnum bought a 3-er for himslef and mrs Magnum, but he is so tall that it works as a 2-er. Houghn (who is a watersports/watertoys guru) got a 1-er and a 3-er so you could ask him.

Seriously these are well made things, not toys at all. They are really rigid - you might think they'd kink in the middle but they dont. They're perfect for getting into beaches where motor tenders are not allowed (in the med). If you get a 2-er get the "Colorado" model
 
I'm not much smaller than Magnum so it would probably be the 3 man Hudson. Any particular reason you say the Colorado is the one to go for?
 
Looks great fun, are they easily inflated/deflated and how small are they for stowing when deflated (talking about the 2 man one)
 
Yeh, I also had the 2x1 or 1x2 dilemna, and ended up buying one of each, a one man for exploring by myself while SWMBO is sunbathing, and a two adult/one child Sevylor Hudson for paddling round the anchorage together, to the beach, or taking our young son out for a spin.

The best ones IMO are the "Advanced Elements", which has a metal frame in the bow, but still folds up quite small. It is proper kit, aimed at canoers who for whatever reason can't transport or store a rigid canoe. They're a fair bit more expensive though, and the Sevylor is still great fun and very good quality, so probably not worth the extra unless you plan to use them a lot.
 
Ah, if you want the extra space a la magnum then yes the Hudson. I only recommended Colorado if you wanted a 2man. The Colorado is a new model in which the pvc bladder is completely covered in fabric, so you can inflate it hard and it's rigid. Earlier versions (the K379, far one in my pic 10) weren't made that way and are not as good, but are still sold as old stock by Sevylor dealers. So, in recommending the Colorado, I was really just recommending that you get the latest design as it is much better than previous versions

Ref hough's post, yes I looked at kayaks that come in mechano frames that you stretch a skin over. They're top quality kit but I decided against one as they are too serious. They cost much £££ and all I was looking for was a bit of a fun toy, hence I went for the Sevylor. I gotta say though that the Sevy has performed much better than I thought. I was expecting it to be a bit floppy but it isn't
 
The two man folds away into a cuboid 40x40x60cm, approx. Kinda 1/3rd of the volume of a washing machine lying on its side, if you get my drift. (It comes much smaller than that, but when you pack it up yourself you never get it as tight as the factory did)

They inflate easily with an electric pump, and an Avon rib bellows fits too. Deflation is easy cos the whole body of the main valves unscrews leaving a 25mm dia hole so the air gushes out
