I am asking for advice again please.

If you were picking up a charter boat for the first time what items would you include on your written safety check list ?

I have one that I have used in the past and I was just reviewing it but with the wealth of experience, (and opinions) that there are here I am sure that I will add something.

Not the obvious maybe, but if you are chartering in the Med. Mask fins and snorkel. Useful for freeing crossed anchors.
Also lifelines (Jackstays) something I have never seen on a Med Charter yacht and yet it can blow very strong. We had to sail in F9 just to get the boat back on time once. Admiittedly the water was quite flat, but nevertherless still essential really, we ended up making some out of mooring warps, not great but better than nothing.
