My aim next year is to do the Jester Baltimore Challenge but it will involve getting the boat round to Plymouth beforehand. Really I would be looking to take the boat round on the last May bank holiday (possibly the week before) and leave it down before taking it to TRSC on the week lead up.

Does anyone know somewhere that's reasonable for a month moorings, possibly less (I may be able to get it down to 2 weeks) within a day ot two sailing from Plymouth? Facilities aren't really a factor, just somewhere safe for the boat (1.6m draft) and with half decent transport links? Ideally for it to work for me it would have to be sub £500 which I don't know if it's possible? I didn't really want to turn the corner into Lyme Bay but transport may be easier?

Or has anyone got a suitable mooring they may not be using around that time?

Cheers Tom

Good shout, I'm not sure how I missed them when I was looking. £240 (possibly £270 if they measure the windvane) for a month swinging sounds doable and we have friends in Plymouth so transport may be a winner.

Cheers

I'd be tempted to try Huggins Brothers who have swinging moorings off Torpoint which is served by a high speed trot boat.

Assuming no friendly forum member pitches in!

I used Huggins at Torpoint this summer when I needed to leave my Solent based boat for a month mid cruise. Secure moorings and an hourly ferry service. They didn’t measure the boat! I wouldn’t hesitate to use them again.

I understand, Tom, from one of my spies that you've been offered a mooring over at Cove Head, on the Cornwall side. That's very sheltered, but well out of the way of everything except the wash from passing tripper and RM training boats.

it is, however, well less than 10 mins by dinghy from the Tamar River SC - 'Jester Village' - which hosts the JBC, and my own club mooring is less than 5 mins ....

From there, with dinghy storage, chippies, shops and banking is 10 mins' walk while a bus passes the club entrance towards the city, rail and coach termini, etc. Club members, including me, can be cajoled into dropping JBC types et al into town at chandleries, riggings stores, 'sauna and sunbed emporia', etc..... ( space reserved for the 'smilie' I cannot summon )

The Saltash SC directly across the river always offers to find some moorings for any 'overflow' that turns up and while the Cargreen SC is very hospitable, they are a lot further away upriver in unmapped Kernow. We don't know for sure who will turn up until they arrive, but be assured we always manage to accommodate everyone who comes for any of the Jester events.

That's a personal commitment.

You've been well informed ?. From what I gather TRSC will put Jester's up for a week before the event? My work's pretty seasonal and June is right bang in the middle of silly season. My thought is getting the boat round a few weeks before so I'm not having a large amount of time off in one go, I wouldn't want to burden a club with a visitor on a mooring that someone else could use whilst I'm earning a crust and I'm sure there with be others wanting space on the week leading up to the start.

Good to know it's a 10 minute dinghy ride, do you think it may be possible to leave mine at the club whilst the boat is over at Cove Head? Sounds like it would be better to get over to the Plymouth side for transport links.

Fingers crossed things are coming together, I'm happy with the boat, wife has given me leave and hopefully the weather will be good... just hope I'm up to it.

Of course you're 'up to it', Tom. Don't overthink it.

We'll sort you - and your dinghy - out. Of course we will. Just take my phone number - and communicate. Questions? Just ask....

Sounds like a smashing adventure and I'm very envious - good luck!

The one thing Saltash really has going for it is the main line train station, which is a 5 minute walk from the Sailing Club. May be worth bearing in mind. Not that I'm trying to suggest ziodberg's offer is in any way inconvenient, it just may be worth bearing in mind if you're likely to be travelling down by train at any point.

Tom, I'm travelling between Hereford (well Ledbury) and TRSC regularly and will be doing the Balitmore dash again next year. If it helps at all let me know what your movements are nearer the time and I'd be happy to get you as far as Hereford or via versa if dates match. I think you can get me via FB.

Really pleased everything is going well with your prep.

Sounds good, looks like Cove Head is a winner but if some some reason I'm at the sailing club over the way it's good to know.

Graeme, thanks for the offer. I'm sure you'll see my plans on FB nearer the time butI'll send you a message and see what's what.

Cheers

Tom
