I cannot say a lot about Eberspacher consumption as mine uses fuel from the main tank and runs about once per year. I have a gas powered Truma in my motorhome that will use 13 kg of gas in a week in winter. I had a Planar installed that is far more frugal on diesel, would run for months on a tank full.

I use kerosene in my Eber. The original reason was that the high sulfur red diesel was causing a problem with the burner. It has turned out to be cleaner, better, and cheaper. I burn about 100 litres per year. It's roughly half the price of road diesel, but of course you need a separate tank.

You can use red diesel at heating rates (lower tax) but the cheapest is heating oil - the problem with that is to get a good (relative to today) price you need at least 500L and that means a bunded tank and a big investment

So all in all red diesel is probably best
