My boat having been the Dusseldorf boat show model had the most fabulous mirror polished bum I ve ever seen. Could'nt bring myself to antifoul it when she arrived so dropped her in without with the promise I would lift her twice a season and have her cleaned. However discovered you can get a diver and scrubbing brush for £30 hour, so sixty smackers later nice shiney bottom again. Sure beats X litres of antifoul or £100's for lift out and steam clean.

Have you been through a whole season yet? In summer the growth builds up in two weeks on an untreated surface, and you have barnacles to contend with, which are a lot more difficult to remove. I use anti-foul, but still put on my diving gear to clean the hull mid season.

Used a diver a couple of times in the Med and IMHO, they cant do as good a job as a proper lift out and pressure wash. In fact, just about all they can do is clean the props and shafts which admittedly does make some difference
I think its a false economy not to antifoul your boat as there will be areas the diver cant get to easily and which will get very badly fouled

We are very lucky around this way as there is alot of fresh water in the marina lock from a river that runs into it so probably we do not get the kind of build up expected south coast way. Also I think the bottom was so polished that anything finds it hard to cling on. Perhaps next season will be different when the polish has worn off. Have to say boat looks so much nicer without antifoul and I always think the outdrives look naff when painted.

Again lucky enough when the tide is out (and the lock is closed) there is only about 5 foot under the hull so you can stand on the bottom and lever yourself against the brush. Most of what was there semed like just a brownish scum which cam off fairly easy.

Think your probably right but for the moment seems only light fouling which comes off fairly easy. He did spend alot of time under there and came equiped with an assortment of brushes to get at the fiddley bits around the drives. The hull was straight forward as being outdrives there are no fittings through the hull. The only thing being the bowthruster which he used a kind of toilet brush to get at. Feeling next season will be different but that will be someone elses problem as we have a bigger one on order and this one will be sold end of season.

If you have a lot of freshwater you may find you are OK. My boat spent 2 years on the Thames, and never antifouled - just a power wash and light scrub once per year.
