I was exploring this outfit's website who do all sorts of electronic junk left overs and also kits.
www.oatleyelectronics.com

They have a kit called Dual battery Adapter for 22$ thats less than 10 squid. I tt is a kit and you would have to put it in a box and wire it up of course but it occured to me that some of my friends in UK might find it worthwhile to try.
Also he has a digital volt meter module for $9. This can be set up for reading 0 to 20 volts. It does require an isolated power supply ie 9 volt battery. Which is inconvenient. He does however do a board with a power supply (isolated so it can run on the battery voltage you are measuring and also contains a shunt for 20 amps for some similar price.

I have no connection with the company but have bought stuff from him some years back and it arrived OK.
Best wishes olewill

I have also found some very interestion kit from OZ.

I purchased a VHF weather satellite receiver kit from Dick Smith that was a design in the mag "Silicon Chip" who have some other very interesting designs

I also found a guy who did a VSR kit on ebay.com.au at one time.
