Today I received my new BAOFENG UV-5R multi-band hand-held radio for which I have paid the princely sum of €32, including signed-for delivery.

It seems like a useful piece of kit with a lot of bells and whistles and, at that price, nobody would shed a tear should it go walkabout.

Unfortunately there are no instructions on how to program the frequencies and assign them to channels. The videos that I have found on Youtube all seem to concentrate on programming for UHF and radio amateur use. All I want are the VHF functions.

I don't fancy scrolling up and down the frequencies. Does anybody know where I could find instructions that are easy for me to understand please?

TIA.

I got a set of baofeng 888s radios for camping. I am v pleased with them.
Set up for UHF rather than vhf. I have no magic solution for you i m afraid.
This was a new area for me so the learning curve was steep, but the answer is out there.

You Probably already have the software to a assign frequencies to the channels.
And a 2 pin to usb prgramminng cable, and a software driver that will ensure your cable will work via laptop usb. God knows what frequencies they are imported with. I was quite nervous of getting in the way of emergency services or something.

Mine was all done via an xp operating system which I no longer own and I could not easily find a win 7compatable programming app.

Good luck.
Baofeng are widely used I think so maybe find a UK based radio ham forum..?

Out of curiosity, what frequencies does one use for shoreside stuff like that? Do you just set them up to act like PMR446 walkie-talkies, or is there some other band you can use without a license?
