Our Club has a GP Caprice (Caprice) We want rid! Put it on Ebay and sold for £150 squid. Buyer called into our meeting after travelling from Cornwall over 100 miles. Despite all details as to where and what it is was displeased to learn that to work on it would be practically impossible due to distance involved. Upshot we agreed to refund! Point of posting is to highlight how difficult it is to get rid of dumped boats! It is floating by the way!:encouragement:

My original suggestion was Disk and dump, job done! less trouble!

There was a good Leisure 17 at my club, good sails, on a simple but working trailer, with the interior 90% completely new, the owner had to go abroad for long term work before she was completely finished.

Asking £200, we still had time wasters who had been sent photo's but if they turned up at all still seemed to be expecting a brand new Hallberg Rassey...eventually the boat went to a good home.

Wish ours would too!
I think if we were to offer it for free someone would want to "Knock us down";)

To be fair the advert did say "Leisure 17 (might be a Hallberg-Rassey).......:D

I've seen dafter stuff on eBay.People keep trying to sell knackered old combi boilers claiming all sorts. The buying public are at the very least capricious......and that's being generous.

Have you tried Gumtree? It's free at least. Trying to shift an old boat that needs work in winter will be hard. Also, a lot of people don't have the skills to make a boat like this serviceable. And those of us that do, don't have the time!

The trouble is, a lot of sailors and potential sailors are brainwashed into thinking you need a minimum of 30 feet to be a sailor - they don't realise how much fun you can have with a small boat like this. Shane Acton sailed his round the world twice, don't forget!

Also, have you tried local schools or colleges, other sailing clubs and notices in marinas and supermarkets. There may also be a Freecycle group in your area, there's one in Plymouth. Ebay can be a monumental waste of time.

Sadly, a lot of people buy to impress their friends these days whether it be boats, cars houses kitchens or even garden plants. Perhaps out there is someone who is looking for a down-sized boat having spent all their excess cash on big ones all their life. I hope that you will soon be lucky.

Max.
