Sorry Nigel!! Haven't got one, dont want one thanks. You have to BUY chart thingies for them!!!! No more photocopying!!

depends how much you want to spend.

have a look here and select the star price - But also check out the Navman 5500i cause its not much more and its colour.

FX 324 - UK supplier has offered £288 + £6 del. (incl Vat) with local chart incl.

Good price, but prefer the C-Map NT+

Navmen 5500i =£284 from above link + customs & VAT

However you should be able to get the Navman rebate of £100 - which makes it a pretty good price!

I know - the cartography deals are wide !!

Prices across the charting spectrum are crazy .... some quotes of 189 for Mapsend, other sources 125 for same cd....

Garmin similar situation depending where you buy .....

Plus of course whether you use industry standard SD card or proprietary card / chip of garmin etc.

Here I am offered for £294 all in .... a FX 324 with >
quote
M5G182L if you go east – Near to Dover or
M5G166L if you go west – Near to Poole.

1 comes free with the plotter ...
unquote

incl. data / power cable etc.

Difficult call !!

Re: I know - the cartography deals are wide !!

is it a question of getting a plotter at last or ate you really going to put your paper charts and gps away?
while on a fule pontoon getting water i noticed a german baveria which had his plotter on colour of course, and according to that he hadn't reached the harbour by a long way!
Ive also seen large mobos which have hit islands made of very hard rock, the Bow smched in props gone and stearing wheel bent but otherwise ok!That was a chatplotter accident he hit moja!which is quite large, another hit vamdo even bigger! and of course no-one drinks alcohol hear-anyway its forbidden !
Still as you say for a gps with charts it is very cheap!

Hi Trouville ....

Haven't heard from you for a while .....

Plotter - its pressure from others actually .... and when I started digging into what makes etc. - found some really interesting prices .... when you compare with other systems - prices are low.
My thought was to use the plotter for general mucking about local - then if necessary get out the PC and software for outside the local stuff.

So I hope you are enjoying this glorious weather we are having in baltic at moment ?? I'm sitting in my office wishing I was out there on the boat !!!

Cheers.

Re: I know - the cartography deals are wide !!

I make a habit of checking plotter depth against echosounder (+tide)

My plotter does very occasionally freeze if passing a high Rf source, and suspect that this may be because of aerial position, but otherwise, have been very confident about correct position from the beastie

Re: Hi Trouville ....

i just had a small boat 8foot with a 100 4 stroke ask me if i want to go to a pub?and they couldent speak english (nor french italian dutch or german) threve gone to anothrr island some miles away

Re: Hi Trouville ....

yes!im alergic to rain and sailing in stiff wet weather gear so ive been staying longer in places that o can get off the boat and has a shop.
so far in the last to weeks i failed and every time got seriosly soaked!if the sun showed up at all it was way after i had anchored and changed,at least its not cold mostly!though one day i did snow with large ice balls!
ive no internet connection and now my blue tooth has broken on my irish made dell i have to check mail via ir connection
all my email addresses a on two sites that are very slow or as yahoo dont work with a pda,so im useing fastmail.fm which is trully wonderful and when i get home ill take a paid account with so
so im really cut off and in nature but i wasent in stress and prefer sailing to interesting towns
i also brought the wrong boat!the hillyard would be ideal hear with dog house very large water tanks hot shower and heating!not to mention an engin!
