Do they exist and if so where can one be found? I've heard Las Palmas is around 15€ per day or there abouts for 11 meters. We're paying just 157€ per month here at Povoa de Varzim at the moment but we're toying with the idea of heading south to stay warm.
What about Madiera? Also are there any viable stops along the West Moroccan coast? We'd planned to do some hiking there this winter.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Crispin

Moroccon coast marinas

We are currently in Morocco and woukd strongly recommend it. Since the publication of the pilot there have been a huge number of improvements. Though it is still worth having, most of the harbours have been improved and entry is far easier than shown. Though heed the warnings re entry in strong winds as the swell even on calm days can be quite large as you enter the channels.
We are in sale which is beside Rabat the capitol, up to 13 metres the winter rate is about 50 Euros. The people and officials are very friendly and we have not been aproached for baksheesh anywhere from Tanger to Mohamedia, having visited 5 different harbours on this stretch of coast.
So come on down the price is right.

I would thoroughly recommend Rabat too. We were there in Oct 2008 - it was around €38 per week for 11m mono then.
Superb marina, very friendly. Amazing place, and food, travel etc in Morroco are quite cheap (compared with Canaries etc) - a good place to spend some time.

Another vote for Rabat, we were there around this time last year, marina was very good, as for the Canaries, Grasiosa the small island just north of Lanzarote and Rubicon on the south east coast were also very good value for different reasons, Grasiosa for the peace and quiet, Rubicon for the continental lifestyle of a very well orgaised marina, both worth a look.

We have just spent the last 12 months in the Canaries but are now moving on, also to Morocco but to Smir.
The cheapest Marinas we have found are Las Palmas on Gran Canaria and Gran Tarajal on Fuerteventura. They are cheap for a reason, Las Palmas is huge (1200 boats) and right in the city with sirens etc going at all hours and not forgetting the two open air nightclubs at each end of the marina that go on until 6am every Fri & Sat!!! Gran Tarajal is quiet but very quiet. There are shops, restaurants etc not too far from the marina but we felt the place was a bit soulless.
The marinas we liked and found reasonably priced were: -
Rubicon on Lanzarote which is well kept and run with some nice anchorages close by and plenty to do.
Las Galletas (Marina Del Sur) on Tenerife which is still a fishing harbour and quite quaint. Still very Spanish but with Las Americas only 5km away.
Puerto Mogan on Gran Canaria. We visited by car only as they didn't have room for us (catamaran) but the place is very nice. Good selection of bars restaurants with small streams and bougainvillea clad buildings, they call it little Venice.
I hope that helps.

Canaries' marina - Graciosa

Marina is Graciosa is low on facilities but convenient for ferry to Lanzarotte 'mainland'.
Graciosa is a gem. Sandy (you have to see it to believe it!), a few small shops and restaurants - but not much else, and marina is very cheap - especially in September where harbour master takes his holidays and it becomes free! Probably nicest place in Canaries?!
