Craft insure have a great, instant quote system. Their prices are keen. They are internet focussed but if you do ring them, no call centres just a person. How quaint.

I was impressed when I met them at the boat show a few years back. They stopped me to flog me some insurance. I didn't know who I was with so they did a quote. I was with them! And I hadn't declared my Yachtmaster. They refunded the premium reduction to the date I passed . JFM didn't damn their policy wording in the recent insurance debates either.

But now Ive had to claim. Evenstar was involved in a collision (I wasn't aboard). £5k of damage.

The result? Service as good as ever. Friendly. Personal. Efficient.

Needless to say they get my recommendation.

Thats encouraging, a "yachtsman" has managed to bash into the swim platform on SpottyDog, £1500 of damage, fessed up and said he would pay.

Now he has the estimate, he is shocked "hasn't got that sort of money"and asked if I can claim on my insurance and he would pay the excess.
I am waiting for a call back from Craftinsure to discuss how this may affect my premiums, before I decide how to proceed.
He was skippering the yacht, he was not the owner, do I have a claim on the owner ?
I too, have always found Craftinsure good to deal with.

Hi Roy - My initial thoughts are it was the skippers fault and as such he should pay not you as this may effect your ncb and why should you help him out anyway - He must have some form of equity - Failing that he must be insured by the owners insurance company if not then he can be sued for taking the yacht without the owners permission - rant over.
If you was too skipper LD with my permission and I was not on board then you would be covered on my insurance btw.

Agreed. If craftinsure pay they should recover from the yottie. For £1500 they may not bother so we all lose.
This is the yotties bill, if he cant pay, its he who needs to find a way, not you Roy.

I do agree, I have done nothing wrong, so why should it cost me.... I'm in a slightly difficult position as I only have his mobile number and a "talk-talk" email address, so I need to play it friendly till I can extract his full details. I will give the marine a call to see if they have the boat name.

+1.
With them a few years ago and made claim.
They asked me to send a few photos of damage (All my fault) and get a quote or two.
All settled very quickly and without fuss.
Getting my chosen mender get off his arse and fix my boat was another story altogether . :)

That was my experience with them as well; I had a dismasting the first year I was with them, had only taken out the policy two weeks before - paid out, were very helpful, I've been with them ever since.... B.t.w - I was expecting a hike in my premium the next year - not a bit of it.... :encouragement:
