Just had an offer email from Digiboat for v9 of their software. I must admit I was put off a bit from buying the package last year, as I found OpenCPN, and thought that the extra wasn't worth it.
But I do use C-Map cartography so it is a good fit for my Netbook.
ANyone using it, and is the upgrade worth the effort?

As a previous user of our flagship product, Software On Board (SOB), Digiboat is pleased to announce that a brand new SOBv9 was released last year after completing over 15000nm of real live testing.

We believe the superior functionality of Digiboat’s flagship product SOBv9, is a result of it being written, researched, beta tested and upgraded by Sailors, not Sellers. Every part of SOB has been designed, modified and used in real life inshore and offshore passages, yacht races, and power and sail boats, so it actually “does what people need” rather than trying to “sell what it can do”.

We really do appreciate your continued loyalty and interest in SOB, and, as a result would like to offer you the opportunity to update to SOBv9 at a massively discounted price.

For a limited time we are offering SOBv9 at only £99.00 (+VAT where applicable) – saving you 34% on the normal price.

To take advantage of this huge saving, just email us within the next 30 days and we will
1) Send you a PayPal invoice – you don’t need a PayPal account but please provide us with your full postal address for accounting purposes.
2) If you prefer to pay with you credit or debit card we can take payments over the telephone or via email, but again, we need your full postal address for accounting purposes.
3) Once paid you will receive your new License/Password together with step-by-step instructions on how to obtain your NEW Product KEY

If you haven’t yet trialled SOBv9 just download it from either one of the following links:
a. Main site:
version 9 full install (~130Mb)
b. This is a mirror site which may be faster for some users in Asia & Australia...
version 9 full install (~130Mb)
1) Once downloaded you MUST register your copy of SOB online – this validates the start of your FREE 30 day trial.
2) To register click this link and complete the form:
www.digiboat.biz/international/unlock/
3) Then, so long as you contact us within the FREE 30 day trial period we will send you an invoice for only £99.00 (+VAT where applicable).

******Disclaimer – If you are already running an earlier version of SOB you must install it in a completely different named folder so as to keep your existing SOB version intact as it overwrites some of your existing files.

SOBv9 needs to be installed totally independently away from your existing version as it overwrites some DLL files. It should be installed in a different folder to your existing version preferably in a different partition or drive (USB stick) or on a different PC. ******

If you do end up over-writing your existing SOB version, we can send you step-by-step instructions on how to re-install your old SOB version.

This offer is NOT available on our website (www.digiboat-int.com) or advertised anywhere else.

Remember, the benefits you receive once you purchase SOBv9:
1) FREE Technical Support for LIFE
2) FREE RNLI Offshore Membership for 1 year – (new RNLI members only – available to UK only)
3) FREE updates for 12 months from the date of purchase
4) Use SOB on up to three computers with just ONE License/Password – No other company offers this

I've just opted for Polarnavy's Polarview (& Polarcom) now that its available with UKHO's vector chart set of UK waters.

Total cost £51.99.

It has nmea output for an AP.

It may not be the bees knees but you can't complain for the money.

It replaces Belfield's Chart Plotter (no nmea output) and NavmonPc (nmea instruments) on my boat notebook.

Ignore the demo - its useless, & off-putting even, as the most useful features are disabled until activated.

PolarView 30 day trial includes all features that are provided in an activated version. After 30 days, live navigation, AIS, ActiveCaptain POI and GRIB downloads require activation.

I wonder which specific features were you unable to use during the trial period?

I downloaded it at the weekend and when I tried to access the features I kept getting a message saying 'activation required to access this feature'. (or words to that effect)

However, I've just installed it on another pc and indeed all the features do work.

I think the explanation maybe because I had already downloaded the demo about a year ago and therefore the 30day trial period had expired. The new download must have detected the previous install.

So apologies for my confusion.

That is correct - 30 day trial is once-per-computer/system.

Just wanted to make sure there isn't an unreported bug/issue out there.

You are from Polarnavy then?

I'm looking forward to receiving the Uk charts cd and will report back with my findings.

There is one point - completing the activation process requires an internet connection. Is there a way to do it via email from another pc?

Ian

There is a basic "offline activation" you can perform from a web browser on another machine. However, it is a multi-step process and, more importantly, it can only activate basic features of the product. It will not install licenses for UK charts or ChartWorld charts.

The off-line process is strongly discouraged and exists for "legacy" reasons. It will likely be discontinued at some point.

Activation requires only a brief connection to the Internet, so computer does not need to be permanently connected.
