I have been on the boat this morning pressure-spraying the winter s**t off the coach-house roof and decks. S**T is the right word as it seems to be mainly bird droppings.

A lot of the surface is the raised diamond-pattern non-slip gelcoat. The pressure gum removed most of the dirt but doesn't get all the stains out and I need some type of chemical cleaner.

I have used the Starbrite deck cleaner with some success. Having run out, I am wondering if there is a cheaper domestic/ industrial equivalent. I can't find the active ingredient - I think it is a bleach but not oxyalic acid or hypochlorite.

How good would domestic bleach or Jif be?

Starbrite deck cleaner does not appear to contain oxalic acid or any bleaches.

Most domestic bleaches or cleaners with bleach are hypochlorite based or contain hypochlorite. A few contain peroxide.

Id suggest you ask your housekeeper/cleaner and try what ever domestic cleaners she has or you may have at home

There are products specifically for removing bird droppings. Starbrite offer one I believe. Another is Bird S*!t Remover

I have been using this for a couple of years -
http://www.cloverchem.co.uk/uk/products/hard_virosol_uk.htm

Used well diluted with water - about 2/3 water to 1/3 Virosol makes a really strong solution - but can be dilited considerably more then that while remaining effective. A brush worked into the grain of the non slip surface to help it release those black bits stuck in the grain - then rinse off well. I re-use empty spray bottles from hosehold cleaners or the like.

It is a really good degreaser - only downside is it will tend to remove wax polish from the GRP.
Also use it at home for cleaning hard surfaces such as a tiled kitchen floor and the cooker top. And for the car it's a good alloy wheel cleaner.
I contacted Clover Chemicals to obtain a local source - it will probably be a trade supplier rather than a retailer. The place local to me accepts cash.

In case of doubt - I have no connection with the product.
