"Tin free", explains all antifoul on the market. Post a link to the advertisment, "START A BIDDING WAR /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" is it any more descriptive about what the product is rather than what it is not,.
Tin Free means just that, they give you a tin with every 5 litres.
Not much of a ringing endorsement of its low life repelling qualities really. IMHO of course.
Dont suppose it will be much better if you throw 5 quids worth of best chilli powder in it either.
Check to see if the word Growmore appears anywhere on the label.
I'm sorry I dont really understand these two responses. Are you just guessing that because it is cheap it is no good or do you have experience of the product.

Sobers up.
Well, I have only used one cheap anti fouling effectively and that was Coopers, made in the Southampton area, but I havent seen it for a while
Have used and dismissed:
Blakes Cruising
XM 2000 Hahahahahahahaha

Going with Flag next year.

So the Coopers worked OK then?
If you have dismissed the others, what about scrubbing it all off and trying a year without... at least you would have a base level of fouling to be able to tell just how good/bad the various antifouls are

I have been happy with XM for three years mainly in the Solent. I have used the thicker eroding one ? XM 3000. I used flag last year and it has been equally as good. I phoned flag to check that I could cover XM without any extra precautions and was told it was basically the same but in a different tin!! I therefore wouldnt go with it unless you were happy with XM.
The antifoul debate always seems to provoke antagonistic views.. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
Thanks for the info guys. Old Salt Oz..good idea I hadnt thought there would be such adetailed list of ingrediants. I may just try the cheapo on one side.
The old maxim that 'you get what you pay for' is often correct but (especially with marine stuff) I have often found identical products with different packaging and vastly different prices.

If I remember correctly, the star ratings on that report went a little awry. Reading the text of the report the Compass antifoul came out pretty well although had minimal star rating. At about £25 a tin it's about the cheapest there is. I used it this year and the boat, kept on the Tamar, has just been lifted and looks remarkably free of growth.
I'll use it again next year.
Used to use international every year, then saw the light. Flag every time from now on. Who needs a two year or more promise if it's being replaced every year?

My boat was antifouled last winter with Hempel, before I took delivery. Lifted on Moday (at Marmaris) and only slight slime to be seen after more than 6 months in warm water. I saw other boats lifted that were worse, but of course I do not know what they used or how long they were in for. My hull was pressure washed, and I will re-coat with one coat of Hempel next April before re-launch. Only a few very small patches had lifted, and I will prime in those areas only. Regret that I cannot tell you exactly which type, as the one I bought is a commercial grade and the same as used by most of the charter companies in Marmaris according to the local Hempel agent. It was cheaper than Hard Racing or Mille Cruising varieties. A five litre tin was TRL 150 or equivalent to about £55, which is not bad considering the high tax rates on manufactured products in Turkey. The 5 litre tin was appreciably heavier than rival brands, pointing to a high copper content. I have left it on the boat so cannot read the label and tell you exactly what it is.
