Middle son fancies a pair of decent boots for sailing but, to be honest, we can not stretch to Dubarrys. Has anyone tried the Chatham offering, at £120 they seem good value but...

Thanks mate

Was thinking we may have been the only peeps on here that had heard of them. Order placed! Any ideas re sizing? Read somewhere that we should order a size larger than normal.

There is the old theory that sea boots should be 2 sizes too big so as to be able to kick them off easily if one finds oneself swimming; but this must be balanced against them being useful on deck, not a hindrance.

Certainly I'd allow for very thick socks, if said son does or is likely to do serious winter sailing.

Personally I find my Musto M1's better than trendy jobs - which I also have and leave at home - at a fraction of the price,( more freeboard & grip than most ) but I guess they don't look the part in some circles.

I had a pair of Chatham Cruz boots (although not the mark 2) wore them for 1 days sailing and deck work, all the brown dye wore away from the leather. Sent back for full refund. then managed to get a pair of Henri Lloyd shadow boots for £65 from the outlet store :)
