Where do I get charts for NW France? Force 4 just cover as far as the Channel Islands, but I am planning a trip to Brittany this summer. Where is the best place to look (apart from in the For Sale section)?

Imray charts cover the whole French coast AFAIK. Admiralty Leisure Folios only cover the Channel Islands, or else the full (very expensive) Admiralty charts.

Which ones? Imray, Admiralty, or SHOM?

Personally I like Imray, and buy them direct from their site at imray.com. Though I hear that SHOM are more detailed around the interesting rocky bits, so I might get them instead if going where you are.

If I were you I would back them up with the excellent Bénéteau (used to be Pen Duick) sailing guides. There's one for N.Brittany and another for the South.

I have just bought a series of Imray charts for southern Brittany, a little over £15 each from Marine scene. This is the first time I have used anything other than Admiralty Leisure Folios - not sure I like them......

Well, I am off to St Malo tomorrow (Brittany Ferries), but will have a look at the French ones while I am there. Also the Beneteau guide - there is a fantastic s/h bookshop in Quimper, I'll see if they have anything like it there - bought a couple of fabulous books on boats there in the past. Thanks to all for the advice..

I always enjoy browsing around this place. They sometimes have charts too:

It's at Kernours, Kervignac near Lorient.

I found the Bloc Marine Atlantique very useful on that coast too. Much of the Almanac is in English as well as French and there are some very good coastal charts included.
