Charts for a Yeoman

I am in a position to start afresh with a chart portfolio for my new (old) yacht. For the next 5 years my cruising range will be centred on the Solent and unlikely to extend beyond Brighton, Honfleur, NW Spain and southern Ireland.

The new boat comes with a Yeoman plotter and I intend to make full use of this until 24" x 24" lcd screens with a telepathic interface become the norm. The yeoman sensor sheet measures 20" x 26".

Which chart publisher should I select?

Imray are meant to have pre-printed Yeoman reference points but I think their charts are too large. BA leisure folios look like good value but their range is limited.

This depends on whether you have the smaller sport model or the larger.
For the Sport the UKHO portfolios are ideal. Dont worry too much about the preprinted points. After a little practice you can put them in quite quickly.
One problem is making sure you number the charts to correspond with the Yeomans wishes.
A second one is to make sure the chart doesnt move on the Yeoman.
Its a good system and I use it whenever I'm not using the chart to get through closely spaced rocks that I can see

I like Imray, but thsat's personal preference, you can fold to suit the Yeoman and reference the foded chart. Fold a different way for a different part of the chart and reference it again as a new chart. If you want you can even reference a harbour plan as yet another Yeoman chart number. Don't see any need for pre-printed reference points as it is easy to find your own that fit the chart folded as you want it

The BA leisure charts I have do print the reference points. It helps a little. I think the Yeoman is the best thing since Hornblower!

I have to say that I like the BA Lesiure folios for ease of use with the Yeoman - but I've used BA,Imray,SHOM, and a French equivalent of Imray (Cant remember the name, butheyre printed on Tyvek or something similar - I've eve washed them with hot water and washing up liguid to remove coffee stains!).

They all work - it comes down to a personal preference.

I just wish the original designer of the Yeoman puck had been right handed, and that the LED's were a touch brighter (for daylight) and the buttons backlit (for night).
